‘Consumer Series’ Mixed Media on Canvas 60X60
Studio view of Chris Saint Martin’s mixed media Consumer Series. As part of the Marian Hayes Artist Residency 2019-2020 at the Tuley Park Cultural Center, the artist began creating large 60X60 collages.
Influenced by the décollage of Jacques Villegle, Consumer Series, is a commentary on personal accumulation, advertising and consumer culture. The work mainly consists of paper amassed from purchases, discarded elements from torn billboards as well as objects found near city streets. Trained as a filmmaker, Chris is fascinated with the process of decomposition and its relationship to social change and the environment.
Video’s contain audio from interviews with Pulitzer Prize winning composer Henry Threadgill at the Library of Congress as well as authors Stacey Sutton and Bob Proctor.
